Climate

Due to Australia's huge expanse, spanning 33 degrees of latitude in the southern hemisphere from the tropics to the temperate zone, it's climate varies over it's area. The northern half has temperatures ranging from 27º to 29º Centigrade in January and Februrary and 12ºC to 24ºC in June and July. The southern half has temperatures in the area of 20ºC to 18ºC in January and February and 10ºC to 12º C in June and July. Along the coast this temperature is lower but in the center of the Australian desert the temperatures soar to 45ºC in the shade. In the North the rains are predominantly monsoonal, falling in the hot season and then dieing away rapidly inland, whereas in the south they come with depressions travelling east covering Tasmania and a strip of varying depth of the mainland. Cyclones reach the north west in November to April and the north east in January to April. The wettest area is the north east Qeensland coast with rainfall ranging from 366cm to 419cm per year, the driest area is Lake Eyre with less than 12cm of rain annually.
